Before Scheduling a Facility Appointment

Please confirm that:

The signer has acceptable identification or contact us beforehand to discuss available identification options.
The signer is awake, alert, willing to participate, and able to communicate directly with the notary.
The documents are complete and ready for signing.
Any required witnesses have been identified or witness coordination has been requested in advance.
The facility permits outside mobile notary access.
The signer is available at the scheduled appointment time.

A Special Note About Hospital & Bedside Appointments

A family member, caregiver, attorney, or facility representative may schedule the appointment; however, the signer must personally communicate their willingness to proceed with the notarial act.

If the signer appears unable to communicate, does not understand that they are signing a document, appears unwilling, or if circumstances prevent the notary from completing the required notarial act, the notarization may need to be postponed or declined.

Memory Care & Medically Sensitive Appointments

A diagnosis, age, hospitalization, disability, or residence in a memory-care or healthcare facility does not by itself determine whether a notarization can be performed.

The notary must be able to communicate directly with the signer and determine that the signer is willing to participate in the requested notarial act. When there are questions concerning legal capacity or the legal effectiveness of a document, the client should consult the appropriate attorney or other qualified professional.
